Just close your eyes and picture everything charming and idyllic about rural France. You're imagining this place.
Les Vigeants is located in the Touraine, south of the Loire Valley and a few miles outside La Brenne national park. We are an hour drive south of the city of Tours, 2.5 hours from La Rochelle and 3.5 from Bordeaux.
The climate is ideal for training throughout our season. Mornings start off mild, it warms by 11:00 and the temperature normally peaks at around 4pm when you're ready to start chilling out. A May here can feel like June/July in the south of England with fifteen hours of daylight and average highs of 19 degrees which increases to 25 degrees by July and as our vegetable plot would attest, a forecast of rain does not always deliver.
If you feel the need to take a rest day and want to get out and about or you have a partner who doesn't share the urge to train there are plenty of options. Wine buffs might want to take a drive through the Loire's vineyards, visiting some grand chateaus, shopping in Chatellerault (a large Decathlon store) or sampling some French cuisine.
For the families we are within an hour of the Futurascope theme park, the Haute Touche wildlife reserve, the Planet of Crocodiles near Chauvigny, the Zoo de Beauval, lake and river based beaches many with activity centres for kayaking, windsurfing, pedalos, mini golf etc. such as Bellebouche and St Cyr and then a little further afield is la Vallee des Singes (monkey valley) and Disneyland Paris is 4 hours drive or 2 hours by train..
